ZEPPELIN RAID ON WILLIAN - REALLY, WHY?
Late on the night of the 1st October 1916 the First World War really arrived in Letchworth. At 1.14 in the morning a German zeppelin bomber dropped over 50 bombs on Hitchin and Willian. Little real damage was done but one man was killed in the raid. The event would have been a frightening experience for the entire local area.
